As of this moment, the bill remains in the Senate committee. This is where members may hold additional hearings, make amendments, or vote on whether to send it to the full Senate. If the bill gets approved, it will be debated by the Senate before moving to the House of Representatives.
Committee Hearing Recaps:
The bill S. 2385, Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History Act, was referred to the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources and received a hearing before the Subcommittee on December 9, 2025. During this hearing, the senators discussed how the bill would ultimately affect the way the National Park Service presents American history. Those in support of the bill argued it would help to encourage a more balanced view of the nation's history. But, others questioned whether it could limit how historical events are interpreted. Several of the senators, which included Angus King, expressed the importance of presenting history accurately and fairly.

Next Steps:
The House committees have to decide whether to hold a hearing or a markup. If the bill is approved by the committee, it will move to the full House for a debate and a vote. If passed, Congress would reconcile any differences with the Senate version before sending the final bill to the President.

H.R. 4730, the Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History Act, is the House companion to S. 2385. The Senate version of this bill was discussed in a recent hearing before the Subcommittee on National Parks. The hearing focused on how American history is presented in national parks and federal institutions.
